Seven tips for clever media handling.

1. Use different media

Use politically and geopolitically different media and compare the different presentations on one topic in order to form a well-founded opinion.

SPR tip : Study the original documents yourself for important topics.

2. End subscriptions from propaganda media

Unsubscribe from predominantly propaganda media. Instead, support independent and critical journalism as much as possible.

SPR tip : Use the SPR propaganda key to detect manipulative media.

3. Use advertising and tracking blockers

Use an ad and tracking blocker on all devices and in all browsers . Deactivate this only on media pages that you would like to support with advertisements.

SPR tip : The Internet should not be used without advertising and tracking blockers.

4. Use alternatives to Google search

The search results and search suggestions from Google are very heavily manipulated. Therefore, use an independent alternative to the Google search engine on all devices .

The YouTube video platform belonging to Google (and its search function) is also heavily manipulated and censored. Therefore, also check independent platforms here .

SPR tip : Every search engine is better than Google. Try DuckDuckGo for example.

5. Use alternatives to Facebook and Twitter

Facebook and Twitter are heavily censored and manipulated on political and geopolitical issues. You can also use or check independent platforms here .

The notifications and “timelines” from Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are often heavily manipulated. Instead, follow the desired authors and media directly via the RSS service .

SPR tip : You can also subscribe to YouTube channels via RSS (no login required).

6. Beware of Wikipedia

Wikipedia is heavily manipulated by political and commercial interest groups and should therefore not be used at all or only with great caution when it comes to sensitive topics.

SPR tip : Check the sources, authors and discussion page of Wikipedia articles.

7. Tell friends and relatives

Let friends and relatives know about the risks of manipulative media, search engines and platforms and recommend independent alternatives.
